The Beatles' heyday has been explored repeatedly in film, and soon, yet another movie will shed some light on the scene that surrounded the Fab Four in the '60s. This upcoming flick will focus on the life of Brian Epstein, the manager who is frequently referred to as the fifth Beatle.
Fittingly enough, the flick will be titled The Fifth Beatle, which is the name of an upcoming graphic novel by Vivek J. Tiwary. He will be writing and producing the film adaptation himself.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that this film will be unique among Beatles-related movies in that Tiwary will have access to the band's legendary recorded works. This is thanks to a film deal with Sony/ATV, which controls the John Lennon/Paul McCartney catalogue.
Speaking of the project, Tiwary explained, "My interest in the Brian Epstein story began almost 20 years ago, when I decided that music management was the area of the entertainment industry that I first wanted to pursue. I had been a lifelong Beatles fan, so I thought that it made sense to study the management of the band that had written the rules of the modern music industry. What I unearthed after much research — there is a paltry amount of information readily available on Brian, which is part of why I want to bring his story to the world — was not just an inspirational business story and a blueprint for what I wanted to accomplish with my career, but also a very human story. This is a true labor of love, passion project for me."
Epstein, who also managed Cilla Black, Gerry & the Pacemakers, Billy J. Kramer, and others, was instrumental in getting the Beatles signed and bringing them to stardom. He was gay, and rumours have suggested he had a fling with Lennon. He died at age 32 due to an accidental combination of sleeping pills and alcohol.
