Published May 06, 2014Ever-busy Vancouver tape label 1080p's latest electronic offering comes Minneapolis/New York trio Beat Detectives. The curiously titled ASSCOP drops today (May 6), and it's available to stream in full on Exclaim.ca.
A press release calls this a "party tape of loose and disorienting house and heavy bubblegum beats." It's filled with "light antagonism [that] comes beamed in (much like their previous cassette tapes) from some discarded Winamp .pls on their cluttered PC desktop."
Its 10 tracks include "Summer in the City," which begins with weirdo hip-hop beats and jazzy sax noodling before suddenly morphing into a dreaming thumping dance pulse. "Oh the Felix" similarly sounds like a radio station flipping through channels as it erratically morphs until a woozy beat finally anchors it.
