Just in time for the tail end of March Madness, founding Beastie and budding director Adam Yauch is dropping his former behind the lens moniker, Nathaniel Hornblower, to present Gunnin' For That #1 Spot under his own name. Expanding his directorial skills beyond the confines of his band (past experience includes concert film Awesome; I Fucking Shot That!, and a shitload of Beastie Boys videos), Yauch's basketball documentary follows eight of the top 24 high school basketball players in the USA as they prepare to compete in the first annual "Elite 24" all-star game.
Held at Rucker Park, a legendary basketball court in Harlem that's been graced by the likes of Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Dr. J during its history, the "Elite 24" competition took place on September 1, 2006, and Yauch was apparently the only person to capture it on film.
When the movie hits theatres on June 27 through Oscilloscope Pictures, you can expect a "raw hip-hop" soundtrack combined with Yauch's "unique directing style."
