In January, it was revealed that Gene Simmons would try his hand at the Canadian festival market by co-producing a festival dubbed Titans of Rock in Grand Forks, BC, this summer. In revealing more of the event's initial lineup, the festival has now undergone a substantial rebranding.
Titans of Rock is now officially Canada Rock Fest, and it will be solely produced by Canadian promoter Chuck Varabioff. The fest is still set to take place August 6 to 8 in Grand Forks' James Donaldson Park.
New additions to the festival's preliminary lineup include the B-52's, REO Speedwagon, Extreme, Toque and Snake Oil, featuring former members of Harlequin, Streetheart and Prism.
Additionally, a press release notes the inclusion of an all-star lineup including Todd Rundgren, the Cars' Greg Hawkes and Elliot Easton, Dweezil Zappa, Denny Laine (Moody Blues, Wings) Jason Scheff (Chicago) and Joey Molland (Badfinger) will perform a selection of their own greatest hits on top of songs from the Beatles' celebrated album Abbey Road.
Those names join a lineup that already featured 54-40, Our Lady Peace, Starship, Three Dog Night, and Randy Bachman & Burton Cummings.
With regards to the name change, the event's official website explains, "Titans of Rock is a Gene Simmons trademarked company, unfortunately Titans will not launch in Grand Forks this August."
Titans of Rock was in part a rebranding of Varabioff's CannaFest, which ran in Grand Forks from 2015 through 2018. The website adds that "CannaFest is Chucks trademarked name that he built the festival in Grand Forks with since 2015, unfortunately with the new cannabis regulations in Canada, that name became illegal on Oct 17 2019."
Tickets for Canada Rock Fest are now available, with complete information available here. Tickets previously purchased for Titans of Rock will be honoured and are eligible for a refund.
A press release notes that a percentage of event proceeds will benefit local charities, while Habitat for Humanity Kamloops will also auction off a show-quality, collectible car at the festival to raise funds for affordable housing construction in the Thompson and Cariboo Chilcotin regions of British Columbia.
