Published Jul 21, 2009With the Polaris Music Prize short list recently being announced, it's time for British music critics to follow suit with their annual short list for the Mercury Prize. The award is selected by a panel of UK industry folks, and the winning album gets a hefty £20,000, as well as some pretty serious bragging rights.
Last year Elbow won the award, and before that UK artists such as Klaxons, Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand took home the prize. The short list was announced today (July 21) and here's what it looks like:

The Mercury Prize will be announced on September 8.
