Bassist Nicole Fiorentino Joins Smashing Pumpkins

All right, because you're all waiting with baited breath to see what Billy Corgan does next here in 2010, we've got some Smashing Pumpkins news: bassist Nicole Fiorentino has joined the band.

Fiorentino has done time in Twilight Sleep, Light FM, Veruca Salt, Radio Vago, and Spinnerette. She's also one of the founders of Real Rock 'n' Roll Catering, a catering service geared towards rockers. Which would seem kinda quirky, but considering this is a Pumpkins news story, that's not too out there.

The band's last bassist was Ginger Pooley, who jumped ship in March.

A post on Fiorentino's MySpace page says:

"Nicole is proud to announce that she is the newest member of the Smashing Pumpkins. She is keeping herself very busy these days in the studio with Billy and the rest of the pumpkins crew. She will also be performing live with band for any future tours/gigs."

As for the Pumpkins, the band are hard at work creating the series of Teargarden by Kaleidyscope EPs, which will culminate to form a box set or free downloads for those who don't care about the packaging.

Info on the limited-edition version of the Teargarden by Kaleidyscope Vol. 1: Songs for a Sailor EP can be found here. The EP will be released on May 25 and includes, among other things, a "hand carved obelisk hewn in the shadow of the Incan ruins at Machu Piccu."

Now that's quirky.
