Basic Nature

"Love Won't Always Be There" (video)

Winnipeg two-piece Basic Nature are gearing up for a show at Winnipeg Jazz Fest later this month, and ahead of their opening slot for Low, they've unveiled a brand new music video.

The clip accompanies the track "Love Won't Always Be There," and was directed by Champagne Years leader and videomaker Josh Benoit.

In a recent blog post, the band's Lizzy Burt reflected on the process of making the video, acknowledging that it was made during a phase in which she was allowing herself to "really embrace and explore my egotistic side."

Although she says her ego has since "subsided to a more comfortable place," she took some valuable lessons from the video's filming process.

"I enjoyed dressing up and changing, allowing a certain part of me to be free, out in the open, behind closed doors," she writes. "I enjoyed putting on so much make up I couldn't recognize myself anymore. I enjoyed getting lost, lost in my ego, only to find myself again (relatively) when it was all done."

Basic Nature's Winnipeg Jazz Fest set is scheduled to take place on June 24 at Knox United Church.
