The Baseball Project

"Don't Call Them Twinkies" ft. the Hold Steady's Craig Finn

Adding to a stacked line-up that'd rival even the '92 Jays, Hold Steady frontman Craig Finn has stepped up to the plate to celebrate his beloved Minnesota Twins on the Baseball Project's new single "Don't Call Them Twinkies."

The band - which also features Steve Wynn of Dream Syndicate, R.E.M.'s Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey, Zuzu's Petals drummer Linda Pitmon - deliver a working-class hard-rock jangler tailor-made to hang with other between-inning hits like John Fogerty's "Centerfield" or "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," as Finn drops some nostalgic lyrics about legendary outfielder Kirby Puckett.

"In the fall of '87, I was pretty much in heaven / I got my licence and a girlfriend, and the Twins had won the pennant," he quivers on the cut.

Hopefully with the Twins clinching top spot in the American League Central division, this song will catch on faster than the Atlanta Braves' Tomahawk Chop.
