Bart

'Bart by Bart' (EP stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Oct 29, 2014

As we previously reported, Bart is led by Christopher Shannon and Nathan Vanderwielen, and their debut EP under this name features an exceptionally straightforward title: Bart by Bart. It's out on November 4 on Idée Fixe Records, but it can be streamed now on Exclaim.ca.

The lineup is rounded out by Lane Halley, Andrew Scott and Jay Anderson. Together, the group draw on pop, prog and psych, concocting a vintage blend of sun-kissed vocal harmonies and intricately wrought instrumentation.

Brisk cuts like "The Wall" and "Magic Sun" tap into a retro pop-rock sound that's likely to resonate with fans of another Ontario outfit, Zeus. On the other hand, "Multiply" is little more modern in its Shins-tinged jittery indie rock, while the soaring "Wade" shows off the breadth of the band's dynamics.

The EP will be available digitally and on 7-inch. Hear it below.
