Baroness Return with 'Yellow & Green' LP, Announce North American Tour

Having previously delivered 2007's Red Album and 2009's Blue Record, Savannah, GA-based metal men Baroness have revealed they'll keep up the colour theme on the newly announced Yellow & Green.

The album, which arrives July 17 through Relapse Records, re-teams the group with Blue Record producer John Congleton (Explosions in the Sky, St. Vincent, Black Mountain), and is the product of spending the bulk of 2011 off the road. While a tracklisting has yet to be revealed, apparently the band whipped up a ton of new songs, as Yellow & Green will be issued as a two-CD/LP set.

"We had been on tour for eight years, and we decided to take a break from our adventure to dig our heels in at home and write a new record," frontman John Baizley said in a statement. "We spent the entirety of the past year dedicating ourselves to the new album. Without the break from touring and the time we took to rest and reflect, we would have been entirely unable to write this new record. We have become re-inspired. Now it's time to get back out on the road."

A separate interview with Alternative Press had Baizley admitting that there might be a touch more melody to the group's tunes this time around.

"It's a little hookier," he said. "I've sort of adopted the stance that I wanted to write some songs that were more malleable so you could play them in other styles or tempos -- or you could arrange them in different ways, but you still have a similar song. You have more of a choice as to where you take it, so structurally it is simple on a song-by-song basis, but much more rich over the course of a record."

While Yellow & Green won't be released till the summer, the band may well be blasting their fresh material in your town before that, as Baroness have just announced a spring tour as well.
