Bardo Pond

Cypher Documents I

BY Sean PalmerstonPublished May 1, 2005

The fourth in a series of Bardo Pond releases to be manufactured by the band’s webmaster Cory Rayborn under his Three Lobed imprint (also home to the excellent Purposeful Availment CDEP series), Cypher Documents is a seven-song compilation collecting recordings the band did specifically for their Hummingbird Mountain website in 1999 and 2000. While their Matador album released during this time (1999’s Set and Setting) represented the band’s most blues-based psychedelic output, Cypher finds the band in a much more spacious, experimental mode. With the inclusion of one of the band’s longest songs yet, the 31-minute "From the Sky,” this compilation is perfect for those that like the longer, more drawn out side of the band’s heavy drone rock.
