Bahamas returns with his latest LP Earthtones early next year, and the music man born Afie Jurvanen has just unveiled a new video for recent single "Way with Words."
It's a track that didn't fully come together until it was given an injection of energy by Jurvanen's impressive crew of collaborators. As previously reported, he recruited James Gadson and Pino Palladino for the new album, who have worked with the likes of Beck and John Mayer, respectively, and both contributed to D'Angelo's 2014 masterpiece Black Messiah as part of the Vanguard.
"It was hard for me to get excited about this song. I recorded it a few times and nothing stuck," Jurvanen tells Exclaim! "We started as a trio with Pino and James and at first, I tried not playing guitar at all. Pino came up with this crazy chordal thing on bass and the song started to come to life. Christine Bougie and myself added more guitar to the recording while we were on a break touring with the Lumineers. Felicity Williams, Robin Dann and Alanna Stuart added all the harmony parts last December."
The fruit of that collaboration has now been paired with accompanying visuals, which — naturally — capture Jurvanen to film amidst a palette of earthtones, as he rides a horse through a sepia-toned mid-western landscape.
