Bad Religion's Brian Baker to Bring Me the Horizon: "You Suck as Humans"

Bad Religion guitarist and all-out punk legend Brian Baker is critiquing UK metalcore group Bring Me the Horizon's apparent feelings of entitlement on the European festival circuit, using his personal Instagram account to point out the unit's "display of arrogance" by demanding not to be disturbed by anyone at Spain's Resurrection Fest.

Since both Bad Religion and Bring Me the Horizon played the Viveiro, Spain festival yesterday (July 7), Baker had taken note of posters up on the festival grounds that pictured BMTH, along with the message: "These people are not to be stopped ever."

It was added that they should be granted access to the grounds, even if they don't have passes, and that they can likewise bring anyone along with them.

"I'm going to stop these people every time I see them today and tell them how much their band sucks," Baker wrote in his post, which you can see up above.

Bring Me the Horizon quickly got wind of the Insta pic and immediately went on the defensive. Their biggest bomb-drop: Baker, a veteran who has also played in genre-defining acts Minor Threat and Dag Nasty, is "old."

"I can't imagine being as old as you are and still acting like a 14-year-old girl," Bring Me the Horizon drummer Matt Nicholls replied. "Saw you at least ten times and you didn't bat an eye lid. You got bigger things to worry about nowadays anyway, like ya pension, or cold weather. Dickhead."

Vocalist Oli Sykes doubled-down on dissing the Dag Nasty member, writing: "Yeah, we are not your enemy, winter is your enemy."

The comments section exploded into camps that wanted the Bad Religion riff slinger to lay off Bring Me the Horizon, while others suggested that the post wasn't actually about music, but rather the UK act's high-and-mighty demands and base treatment of festival employees and fellow artists.

"...and the entire point of the thread goes sailing over the goalpost, out the stadium and into the ionosphere where it lies cold and dormant for the next thousand years," Bad Religion bassist Jay Bentley wrote, ahead of a more structured takedown from Baker.

The guitarist explains:

It seems you've missed the point entirely. The issue here is entitlement. My post was a comment on your collective delusion that working local crew at a thirty-band festival should be required to memorize your faces to spare you the indignity of breaking stride on the way to your backstage oasis or, even worse, the humiliation of carrying credentials. Your literal display of arrogance (and the hilariously unrecognized irony within it) was what I was sharing with my followers. I honestly don't know if your music is bad or good — it's not for old people.

Getting direct and to the point, he concluded: "I meant that you suck as humans. Sorry for the confusion."
