Azealia Banks Threatens to Leak 'Broke With Expensive Taste' in April

After months of countless setbacks and label problems, Harlem rapper Azealia Banks has hinted that she will be sticking it to the good people at Universal by leaking her long-delayed Broke With Expensive Taste herself.

A late-night tweet arrived yesterday (March 20) saying just as much, with the "212" spitter explaining that she's set on sending the record out onto the Interwebs April 15, a day ahead of Universal's intended due date for the LP.

Back in January, Banks reported that she had been having some serious problems with Universal, begging to be dropped by the label and observing of the many delays in releasing the LP and saying, "I'm really in hell here."

"I'm tired of having to consult a group of old white guys about my black girl craft," she wrote. "They don't even know what they're listening for or to. I'm literally begging to be dropped from Universal. Universal needs to just hand me over to another label who knows what to do with me. My fans really need some new music. I've been gratefully riding off of mixtape fumes for the past two years but I'm more ready than ever."

Universal has not yet weighed in on Banks' threat.

Broke With Expensive Taste had originally been set for a 2012 release. The record had been teased by singles "Yung Rapunxel" and the Pharrell Williams-assisted "ATM Jam," a track Banks feels underperformed because the N.E.R.D. member "changed his mind about wanting to be associated with me after he had his lite skin comeback."

Banks has also had words with Disclosure after the duo were "really rude" in an interview about a since-abandoned team-up with her.
