Azealia Banks Kicked Off Festival Bill for Racist and Homophobic Tweets to Zayn

BY Sarah MurphyPublished May 11, 2016

Azealia Banks has been known to run her mouth in online forums (and use it as a weapon against security guards), beefing with everyone from Baauer to the Stone Roses and, more recently, making questionable political endorsements. Her latest Twitter attacks, though, have actually been met with some disciplinary action.

After laying in to Zayn for allegedly ripping off her "Chasing Time" video with his latest clip "Like I Would," the former One Direction singer offered up a couple of vague, nonchalant tweets of his own.

Doubling down on the social media attacks, Banks spewed racial and homophobic slurs at Zayn.

Since the string of offensive tweets, organizers of London, UK's Born & Bred Festival announced that Banks has been dropped from their 2016 lineup. They cancelled her headlining slot (scheduled for June 4), emphasizing that the event was "created for EVERYONE" and celebrates inclusivity and equality. In an typically infuriating Banks-like response, she brushed off the decision with a crying-with-laughter emoji.

UPDATE (5/11, 12 p.m.): Banks has offered a half-hearted apology via Twitter, explaining that while she's sorry about how her tweets made people feel (other than Zayn, of course), she's not sorry for anything she actually said.
