Canada was well-represented at the Academy of Country Music Awards, which aired last night (September 16) after being recorded at Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium on August 24: Shania Twain was honoured with the ACM Poet's Award, and none other than Avril Lavigne was on hand to pay tribute to the country legend.
A fun piece of CanCon trivia is that a 14-year-old Lavigne once won a radio contest that earned her the opportunity to sing onstage in concert with Twain. Everyone knows that the Timmins, ON, native's influence exceeds genre — and Lavigne proved that she continued to follow in Twain's footsteps with her performance of "No One Needs to Know" from 1995's The Woman in Me.
Decked out in her signature leather, lined with leopard print in a little homage to the iconic "That Don't Impress Me Much" catsuit, the Napanee singer-songwriter delivered a rich vocal on the country tune, even prompting Twain to comment, "You should've gone into country music, honestly!"
