AUX Looks for Canada's Best Rapper with Ultimate MC Battle

BY Josiah HughesPublished Feb 24, 2011

To celebrate the diverse talents of Canada's hip-hop community and seek out our next great rapper, AUX TV has revealed Ultimate MC: a multi-faceted project that includes four rap battle events taking place across Canada and a 16-part documentary.

The national rap battle will include competitions in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver and Montreal, each with eight of the regions' top MCs battling for a right to take place in the contest finale. It's a worthwhile pursuit, as the grand prize is $5,000 and a record deal with CP Records.

The first Ultimate MC rap battle will take place in Toronto on Friday (February 25) at Lee's Palace. Judges for the battle include Royce Da 5'9", Organik and Cash. The show is $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets can be purchased here.

The other three rap battles will be taking place in Calgary, Vancouver and Montreal. Those interested in participating can sign up here. The submission deadlines are March 10 for Calgary, April 1 for Vancouver and April 22 for Montreal.

The Ultimate MC TV show will begin airing on AUX TV in June. As a press release explains, "The series will document the national MC battle tournament and explore the past, present and future of MC culture with exclusive interviews with some of the most celebrated names in Canadian and American hip-hop, including artists, producers and journalists."

For more information on the show or the live rap battles, keep an eye on the Ultimate MC website.
