Autre Ne Veut

'Age of Transparency' (album stream)

Autre Ne Veut (real name Arthur Ashin) is ready to unveil the follow-up to 2013's stunning album Anxiety with Age of Transparency — but before its official release next week, you can get an advanced listen to the entire LP.

As previously reported, the new record hears Ashin expanding his progressive R&B sound by incorporating a range of jazz influences. Bursts of electronica also shine through on abrasive, glitched-out tracks like "Panic Room," "Cold Winds" and "Switch Hitter." It's his soulful vocals that steal the spotlight, though. Raw, emotional and sounding like his vocal chords are being constantly pushed to their limits, Ashin is as captivating as he is experimental on the new songs.

There are softer moments too, courtesy of the title track, "Never Wanted" and "Over Now," while "World War Pt. 2" will give listeners a surprising and refreshingly different take on the previously shared version.

Simultaneously unsettling and engaging, Age of Transparency arrives on October 2 via Downtown. Give it an early listen in the player below via NPR.
