Autopsy

All Tomorrow's Funerals

BY Denise FalzonPublished Feb 28, 2012

Shortly following the release of their latest album, the outstanding Macabre Eternal (Autopsy's first full-length in 16 years), the Bay Area death metal/gore-grind masters return with a collection of new and old tracks, dubbed All Tomorrow's Funerals. Included in its 22 tracks is remastered material taken from all four of the band's out-of-print EPs, from 1990's Retribution for the Dead to their more recent 2010 EP, The Tomb Within. Also thrown in is "Funereality," from Autopsy's 1992 studio album, Acts of the Unspeakable, and it's a highlight, sounding just as brutal and putrid as ever. Another treat is the rare "Mauled to Death," from their 1987 demo, which has been re-recorded, yet retains a crushingly raw, gore-soaked vibe. Out of the four new numbers, the title track and "Maggot Holes" are especially intense, unrelenting assaults that hopefully foreshadow what's to come on the band's next full-length.
