Austra is the new gothic new wave trio fronted by Toronto indie songstress Katie Stelmanis, and as previously reported, the group are gearing up to release their debut album Feel It Break on May 17 via Paper Bag in Canada and Domino elsewhere. Like all well-meaning bands, Austra will follow the release up with a tour.
Kicking off in Toronto at Lee's Palace on May 19, the live dates see the group playing a handful of eastern U.S. shows, as well as some in Montreal, Ottawa and Waterloo, ON. It's a brief trip, but one that suggests a more sprawling run of dates can't be far behind.
When Austra played at Toronto's Canadian Music Week earlier this month, our reviewer said "the band played almost every part of their songs live -- a feat not often attempted by electronic acts." In other words, have high hopes for this one, folks.
