Austra's latest album, Olympia, earned the shadowy Toronto dance-pop crew a spot on Exclaim!'s cover, and now they've shared a video for the track "Painful Like."
The song taps into the dark atmosphere of the synth-driven track with plenty of gooey green slime, dry ice, masked figures and glow-in-the-dark costumes.
Austra leader Katie Stelmanis said in a statement about the video, '"The main influence was 90's sci-fi movies like The Ninja Turtles, Super Mario Bros and Garbage Pail Kids where all the visual effects are done by hand and look really gross. We asked Exploding Motor Car to make the video cos they specialize in hand-made effects and puppet-making. 'Painful Like' is a song about living life in the sidelines."
