Audiochrome

Fear

BY Carol HarrisonPublished Dec 1, 2002

Darren MacDonald and Marc Mollot make up Winnipeg, MB’s Audiochrome, and Fear, their debut CD, showcases their songwriting talent and the dynamic production of Joey Serlin of the Watchmen. Themes of sadness and melancholy dominate the earnest lyrics, particularly in "I’m Over You,” and hooks are present to make songs like "Survivor” swim around your brain for a while, which is a good sign. The piano and guitar arrangements add interest to the acoustic pop, but something still feels missing. Perhaps it’s the nature of grouping of singer/songwriting duos with session players; band dynamics seem absent and this debut certainly has a neophyte feel to it. Nevertheless, Audiochrome have introduced themselves well with Fear.
