Atmosphere Return with 'Fishing Blues,' Reveal North American Tour

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jun 22, 2016

Twenty years into their storied career, Minneapolis rap duo Atmosphere have announced the impending arrival of their next studio full-length. The hardworking pair's next set has been given the leisurely yet forlorn title of Fishing Blues, and you can reel it into your ears on August 12 via Rhymesayers Entertainment.

While producer Ant and rapper Slug issued a deluxe 10th anniversary edition of their You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having in 2015, Fishing Blues marks the first new album from the outfit since 2014's Southsiders. The upcoming 18-track release is said to be "neither straying too far off their path, nor resorting to playing it safe," opting to refine the sound Atmosphere have stuck with over the past two decades.

While Slug will be working his signature flow over Ant's beats, there is a handful of other vocalists appearing throughout the release. Mid-album track "When the Lights Go Out," for instance, features both metal-masked supervillain DOOM and Kool Keith (who, interestingly enough, once went by the name Dr. Dooom).

Fellow Rhymesayers popping up on Fishing Blues include Aesop Rock and deM atlaS, while other artists on the set include Minnesota's I.B.E., singer Kim Manning and the Grouch.

Below, you'll get the first taste of Atmosphere's Fishing Blues via a music video for the album's xylophone-rocking "Ringo."

In addition to the LP, Atmosphere have announced a number of tour dates. The summer will see them hitting a few festivals in North America and Europe, while the duo have lined up headlining dates across North America from September to November. Canadian dates have been booked in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria, Vancouver and Montreal.
