Atlas Sound and El Guincho Announce Joint Shows in Toronto and Montreal

BY Brock ThiessenPublished May 12, 2008

In an announcement that should make all experimental power poppers collectively lose their shit, Atlas Sound and El Guincho are pairing up for a joint mini-tour. For four dates, which includes Toronto on July 22 and Montreal on July 23, the Bradford Cox-led Deerhunter offshoot and Barcelonian Pablo Díaz-Reixa (aka El Guincho) will play in tandem.

For Atlas Sound, the live appearances follow the group’s wildly praised Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel, which recently received a European edition via 4AD with a sweet selection of added bonus tracks. The dates also come in the midst of a seemingly never-ending string of Deerhunter-related tour activity, some of which even involves opening for Nine Inch Nails.

As for Díaz-Reixa’s El Guincho, he will be fresh off a tour with Architecture in Helsinki in support of his debut full-length Alegranza!. According to, well, us: "Alegranza is a magical kaleidoscope of carefully accumulated found sounds and instrumentation looped to perfection and marinated in shrill chants and tropical harmonies right from the sun itself.” Sounds lovely doesn’t it?

After the acts’ short union together, they will both be heading out on their own respective European tours.

Here are those North American dates when Atlas Sound and El Guincho will work as a team:

7/22 Toronto ON, The Mod Club
7/23 Montreal QC, La Sala Rossa
7/24 Cambridge MA, Middle East Downstairs
7/25 New York NY, Seaport Music Festival
