A pair of cryptic video teasers issued this week by reunited Swedish melodic death metal greats At the Gates appear to be hinting at a new release arriving sometime in 2014, nearly 20 years after their metal-altering 1995 LP Slaughter of the Soul.

The first trailer appeared a few days ago, showing nothing more than a blurry pan across what appear to be lyric sheets before scrolling the message "2014." A second video clip arrived today (January 24), and this one features a promo shot of the band, footage of recording software, musical instruments and concludes with the message "At War with Reality."

It's unclear if that will serve as an album title, or maybe a track name, but by all accounts it looks as if the quintet have holed up in a studio to do a recording of some sort.

You'll find both teasers down below.

At the Gates had broken up in 1996 following the release of the speedy, screamed and tuneful Slaughter of the Soul but reunited back in 2007. They've since continued to play festival dates and club tours, having last hit Canada in 2013.

When pressed about the possibility of a new LP, vocalist Tomas Lindberg told Australia's Kill Your Stereo in 2012 : "I've learned never to say never. We said we'd never do any more shows whatsoever and now we're doing shows [again]. 2008 was the last tour we were going to do and now we are doing more [shows]."

In related news, the Haunted, formed in the mid-'90s out of the ashes of At the Gates, released their new "Eye of the Storm" single this week via Century Media. Currently, their lineup includes At the Gates bassist Jonas Björler and drummer Adrian Erlandsson, while guitarist Anders Björler left the Haunted in 2012.
