Calgary songwriter (and cannabis enthusiast) Matthew Swann has announced his third album as Astral Swans. The self-titled Astral Swans is out on October 8, and he is previewing it with the Julie Doiron-assisted single "Flood."

Astral Swans was co-produced by Paul Chirka, Brock Geiger and Swann himself. Compared to the dark, minimal mood pieces of his past albums, a press release calls this one "Swann's most upbeat, catchy, and immediate album to date."

Doiron duets with Swann on a cover of Cat Power's "Cross Bones Style," and other guests include Cassia Hardy (of Wares), Scott Munro (of Preoccupations) and Jim Bryson.

Swann said in a statement, "The melodies were written in my head, on long walks alone, like spontaneous flowers sprouted from the id; ecstatic downloads from the cosmos. Sometimes the lyrics appeared with the melodies, other times they were refined more consciously, after the fact."

Check out the video for the slinking, horn-drenched "Flood" below. The arrangement is "all glamour, contrasted against the unglamorous lyrics about the delusions of a 4chan incel," according to Swann. The flowery video was was directed by Samantha Selci of Tart Media.
