Art of Fresh

Back to the Earth

BY Omar MouallemPublished Sep 3, 2008

A fusion of rap, R&B and dance, Art of Fresh live up to their name on their debut album. With ’80s influences, but also new school ones like Neptunes and Lupe Fiasco as well, MCs Slakah the Beatchild and DO induce a serious desire to pop collars. The title track has the duo counselling stress with jubilation. On "Get Free,” one of many dance-rap tracks, they quickly announce the desire to do their own thing, unconstrained, six bars at a time. "Come N’ Get Some” turns their style into a delicious recipe that will "have you coming back like a glutton do.” Some rap fans won’t be able to get behind Art of Fresh because of their dancehall beats but "Get Money” featuring Tona and JD Era shows they are capable of satisfying them too. Back to the Earth is pure positivity and a promising introduction from a uniquely Canadian group.
