Published Feb 11, 2009Well, that was quick. Barely two months after Art Brut announced Frank Black would be producing their upcoming third album, the spunky, punky Brits have already dropped word it's in the bag.
Awesomely dubbed Art Brut Vs. Satan, the new Brut effort is due out in North America on May 12 courtesy of Downtown Records, with the release date being April 20 in Europe on Cooking Vinyl. And as front-man Eddie Argos assures us, the recording was "punk as fuck."
"I don't always enjoy the recording process - all that fiddling with guitars and drum sounds waiting for my turn to 'sing,'" he explains in an online statement. "This time though, we did it just right. We spent a day getting the sound of the instruments perfect, then with all of us in the same room at the same time, with the amazing Black Francis conducting us, we pressed record, jumped around and played our songs. This is how I always thought albums were made and it's definitely how we're doing it from now on!"
As for the cover art, Argos revealed the album jacket on his blog this week, telling us the group enlisted artist Jeff Lemire, who did the graphic novel trilogy Essex County, to do this bit of artwork. Argos also said to be on the lookout for the album's first single, "Alcoholics Unanimous," which is due out on April 6 in the UK.
There's no word yet if the band will tour North America in support of the album but they do have quite a few dates lined up across the pond. Here those are, along with the tracklisting:
