Art Brut Return with Brilliant! Tragic!

BY Josiah HughesPublished Mar 3, 2011

It's been two short years since they took on Satan, but British sensations Art Brut are already on their way back with a fourth LP of their additively smart-ass post-punk. And, once again, the group have teamed up with Black Francis to produce the album.

The new album is called Brilliant! Tragic!, but unlike its predecessor, it saw the band taking a lot longer with their songwriting. In a press release, frontman Eddie Argos explains, "With the last album we met up every couple of months and wrote three or four songs. This time we got together in the second half of the year and wrote whenever we could two or three times a week. We had more time in the studio this time too (about a week more) so Black Francis had time to teach me how to sing... I'm very proud that I sing on it. Only took four albums to start singing, not bad."

Cooking Vinyl will release Brilliant! Tragic! on May 23 in the UK, with lead single "Lost Weekend" set to drop on May 16. No North American release has been announced just yet, but it's safe to assume that the single and album will both drop one day after their UK releases.

In the meantime, PledgeMusic has offered up non-album track "Unprofessional Wrestling" as a free download via the widget below.
