The 'MacGruber' actor and 'SNL' alum stars in the karaoke video

Arkells have collaborated with Cold War Kids to release a new track and music video for the track "Past Life" from their upcoming album Blink Twice.

Serving as a joint predecessor for the upcoming project, the track — released today via Universal Music Canada — follows the first single off of the record, "Reckoning," released earlier this year.

"Past Life" is a synth-dripped upbeat ode to the '80s and a product of the Hamilton band staying busy during the pandemic, with SNL alum and MacGruber actor Will Forte starring in the accompanying decade-appropriate karaoke music video.

"Last fall we were in L.A. working on music and had this driving '80s song about being present in the moment, and liberating yourself from the past," bandleader Max Kerman said of the collaboration with the Long Beach rockers in a press release. "We wrote the first verse and left the second one open, hoping that Nathan [Willett] from Cold War Kids might be drawn to the collaboration. CWK were one of our early influences when we started our band — we've been lucky enough to share the stage with them over the years, and honoured to record this tune with them."

One of said stage-sharing opportunities was the first edition of the band's popular hometown show "The Rally" — the follow-up to which is scheduled to take place on June 25 after being delayed and cancelled twice during the pandemic.

Arkells are currently touring for their sixth studio album Blink Once and helping orchestrate the occasional surprise proposal along the way.
