Arkells Announce 'Morning Report' LP, Share New Video for "Private School"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished May 6, 2016

Arkells just recently wrapped the promotional push behind 2014's High Noon, but they're already set to return with another brand new record. Titled Morning Report, the latest LP is due out on August 5 through Universal Music Canada.

The new material was produced by Joe Chiccarelli, Tony Hoffer, Brian West and Gus van Go, and it marks the Hamilton, ON-based band's fourth studio album.

Frontman Max Kerman describes the forthcoming collection of tunes as the band's "weirdest, funniest, saddest" and "most honest" record to date.

In a statement, Kerman explained that he looks to his own interactions with those around him and the lives of his family and friends for inspiration when writing. "A lot of songs start from what happened the night before," he said. "That's where the title comes from — friends who text the next day and demand 'Give me the morning report!'"

Apparently Kerman's been hanging out with Drake or his dad, then, as the opening track on Morning Report has been dubbed "Drake's Dad." The first song to get released from the album, though, is "Private School."

The track features guest vocals from fellow Canadian indie dude Dave Monks of Tokyo Police Club and has been given the video treatment. The Cancon cameos carry over on to the screen; diligent viewers might notice special appearances from Monks, Lights and Sum 41 drummer Steve Jocz. Along with the members of Arkells, they play crew on the set of a show about stuffy, stuck-up rich kids. Jocz even pulled double duty as the video's director.
