Published Apr 07, 2014Arkells have a new album on the way this year, and they've given us our first taste of it via the new single "Never Thought That This Would Happen."
The song centres on chiming arpeggios, with the toe-tapping mid-tempo groove flecked with ornate strings as it swells to a dramatic crescendo. The lyrics have an undercurrent of lust-filled sexuality, and this is emphasized by footage of a rocket blasting off in the lyric video, which you can watch below the track stream.
The press release explains: "'Never Thought This Would Happen' was inspired by Hillside. Under the sun, there's live music, workshops and summer dresses flowing in the wind. Beneath the moonlight, there's drinking, dancing, and campfire singalongs. This song takes place after all of that, sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning."
Stay tuned for more information about Arkells' upcoming album. It was recorded in Los Angeles with Tony Hoffer (Beck, Pheonix, M83) and is expected out this summer.
