Published Sep 08, 2014Prolific pop oddball Ariel Pink has released his last couple of albums with his outfit Haunted Graffiti, but he's ditched the band name for his latest effort. On November 18 and day earlier overseas, he will issue pom pom through 4AD.
This is an epic-length effort containing 17 tracks across 69 minutes. A press release says that this "could very well be Ariel Pink's magnum opus," and it includes "infectious tales of romance, murder, frog princes and Jell-O."
Pink said in a statement, "Although this is the first 'solo' record credited to my name, it is by far the least 'solo' record I have ever recorded."
It includes some collaborative tunes with Kim Fowley, which were written in Fowley's hospital room while he was battling cancer.
At the bottom of this page, hear the gorgeously woozy ditty "Put Your Number in My Phone," which tones down Pink's signature strangeness in favour of romantic vintage pop lushness.
Also below, see the tracklist for the double-vinyl version of pom pom. As you can see, the sides are labeled P-I-N-K rather than the traditional A-B-C-D. It will only arrive as a single CD and digitally.
