Sheffield’s Arctic Monkeys took home the Nationwide Mercury Music Prize on September 5 for their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. With the £20,000 cheque in their hand, the band’s front-man Alex Turner stated, "Somebody call 999, Richard Hawley’s been robbed! Thanks to everyone that’s helped us. Normally it doesn’t go to a band that’s sold so many records, to put it bluntly, but we’re pleased. They’re good tunes, that’s what we do and there aren’t any tricks, people are trying to do too many tricks.”
