The Arcs

"Young"

On Black Friday (November 27), Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach will release a new EP called The Arcs vs. the Inventors Vol. 1 from his project the Arcs. This includes a track called "Young" that was co-written with David Berman of Silver Jews, and this song can be heard ahead of time.

The song is a slinky, atmospheric number in which a low-key rhythmic swagger is overlaid with soft vocal coos and all sorts of spacey, trippy synth sound effects. Still, despite this being a bit of an oddball tune, it's still possible imagine what it might have sounded like as a Black Keys song with a stripped-down arrangement of fuzzy guitar licks.

Auerbach and Berman have apparently written a number of songs together, as the Black Keys member said in a statement, "We've been meeting at night, writing together for a few years. This is the first time we've shared any of that. The Arcs have recorded more songs from the collaboration and we hope to release more of it very soon."

The Arcs vs. the Inventors Vol. 1 will be out digitally on December 11 through Nonesuch.
