Architects

Nightmares

BY Jill MikkelsonPublished Feb 26, 2007

Now that Scarlet has disbanded, it seems as if Architects might be looking to take their place. Not that the former occupied a particularly lucrative niche, just that the latter have taken to their style in a strikingly similar manner. Their brand of metalcore is very typical in its delivery: plenty of quirky tech moments, squeals and chugs interwoven into a pattern of manufactured mediocrity. They are somehow less annoying than most who partake in this genre, only because their songwriting doesn’t completely depend on the typically repetitious verse, chorus, breakdown format. That isn’t to say there isn’t a hearty amount of floor punching moments, they’re just written into the songs tastefully. Overall, it’s nothing special, just above average. Fans of this genre will appreciate the zealousness infused into this album. Everyone else should steer clear.
