Arch Enemy Announce North American Tour

BY Keith CarmanPublished Oct 15, 2009

Swedish death metal giants Arch Enemy have announced that they'll be touring North America in support of their latest offering come January 2010.

Dubbed the "Tyrants of Evil" tour, the stint will cover North America and hit a few select Canadian cities in order to push copies of the band's recent album The Root of All Evil, out now on Century Media Records.

The album has quite the weird concept, but if you're even vaguely familiar with Arch Enemy, you understand how this record works. Their current vocalist Angela Gossow is actually the second singer, taking over in 2001 from original front-man Johann Liiva who split in 1996. It's common perception that much of the band's Liiva material - three albums in total - is largely underrated and Gossow has been singing those tunes for, well, over a decade now. She's understandably deserved the right to offer up her own renditions. So, the band picked 13 tracks and re-recorded them with Gossow at the vocal helm.

For the tour, the band will be supported by legendary Bay Area thrashers Exodus, as well as openers Arsis and Mutiny Within.

Says Gossow in her enlightening official statement: "Hells Yes! We are more than ready to return to the U.S. and Canada for a head banging and neck breaking tour experience! Totally stoked about the killer package - Arch Enemy, Exodus, Arsis and Mutiny Within. We personally handpicked these bands for you! A full on extreme, versatile and so very METAL line-up. You will be hurting in a good way after we have been through town! The Tyrants of Evil are ready to kill!!!"
