Arcade Fire's Win Butler Is Officially a Canadian Citizen

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jul 10, 2019

Arcade Fire frontman and long-time Montreal resident Win Butler has officially become a Canadian citizen.

Butler was born in California and raised in Texas, but moved to Montreal to attend McGill University. He met his wife and bandmate Régine Chassagne while at school and has primarily lived in Montreal since.

Yesterday (July 9), Butler announced he had finally received dual citizenship, and shared photos and footage from his citizenship ceremony.

Butler claimed he was "very honored" to be a Canadian citizen (though he forgot to add a "u" in "honoured.")

"I've lived in Montreal for half my life, so it feels very natural to have both passports now!" he added. "Had to wear the Canadian Tuxedo, and yes Mounties are real."

See his memories from the ceremony below.
