Published Sep 27, 2011The news that Arcade Fire are working on a movie in their spare time might sound a little familiar. After all, last spring we caught wind that the band and Spike Jonze were working together, and this collaboration eventually resulted in the short film Scenes from the Suburbs. Now, it looks as if the members of the beloved Montreal collective are spearheading another movie project.
Speaking with Fucked Up's Damian Abraham for MuchMusic at the recent Polaris Music Prize gala, frontman Win Butler explained, "We've been working on a horror movie in our summer free time, but I don't think it will see theatrical release."
By the sound of things, the project is relatively casual and plans are currently up in the air. But knowing Arcade Fire, there's a distinct possibility that this could result in something awesome. They don't appear to have composed any music for the flick, since they joked that they might use their Polaris cheque to pay for music licensing.

Adding fuel to the speculative fire is the fact that director Terrence Malick and actors Christian Bale and Haley Bennett were spotted this weekend filming an unknown project at the Austin City Limits Music Festival. As The Playlist points out, the Hollywood stars showed up during Arcade Fire's set.
There's no word as to what exactly this Malick project is, and its connection to Arcade Fire's horror film is dubious. Still, we're beginning to see plenty of evidence that the celebrated Canadian rockers will be returning to celluloid soon.
