Following a mind-melting surprise appearance at SappyFest this long weekend (July 29), indie rock titans Arcade Fire have announced another high-profile festival appearance, with a free show planned in Montreal to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Pop Montreal.

Arcade Fire are scheduled to take the stage at the place des Festivals of Quartier des Spectacles on September 22 for a free outdoor show.

In a press release, the band's Régine Chassagne explained the reason for the free concert, saying, "Our band couldn't exist without Montreal. After having had the chance to tour extensively around the world, we're very excited to finally come home. And to do so the Montreal way, we hoped to play a free outside show, on the very last day of summer as a big 'Thank you' to the beautiful city we love so much."

The show is being presented by SiriusXM Canada, who will simultaneously broadcast the performance via satellite radio.

Along with the Arcade Fire show, Pop Montreal has announced a pile of festival acts for this year's event. They include Les Breastfeeders, Fucked Up, Miracle Fortress, Grimes, Sal Principato (Liquid Liquid), Touchy MOB, Laura Marling, Dirty Beaches, Frankie Rose, Philémon Chante, Evening Hymns, Mozart's Sister, Pom Pom War, Snailhouse, Moonface, Samiam, Mr. Pauer, Chevalier Avant Garde, Lindi Ortega, Toboggan, Yamantanka Sonic Titan, Fuad & the Feztones, the Hypnophonics, the BCASA, the Planet Smashers, the Creepshow, the Fundamentals, East End Radicals, the Hellbound Hepcats, Sarah Blackwood, the Real McKenzies, Random Hand and Rude City Riot.
