Published Mar 18, 2014Last night (March 17), Arcade Fire performed in Philadelphia, and they pandered to the hometown crowd with a cover of "Motownphilly" by Boyz II Men.
The band performed a relatively faithful version of the funky cut from 1991, replacing the electronic hip-hop production with perky soul grooves with lots of smooth sax and group-sung vocals. In the fan-shot footage, Win Butler mostly hangs around the front of the stage in his oversized papier-mâché mask, while his bandmates hold down the arrangement behind him.
