Published Mar 31, 2011Earlier this month, we were tipped off that Arcade Fire would be filming a number of performances during a trip to Haiti for an upcoming DVD. We're not sure that this footage is official, but it's certainly a taste of how joyous the occasion was for the band.
A surprise gig from the group took place in Port-au-Prince on Tuesday (March 29). The set featured a number of covers, including takes on Creedence Clearwater Revival and the Rolling Stones, while also featuring some originals. Unsurprisingly, the band rolled out a gleeful version of Régine Chassagne's celebration of her Haitian heritage, "Haiti," which you can watch below.
If the rest of the show is as playful and life-affirming as this dance-heavy clip, we're in store for some more great footage. Check it out below.
UPDATE: Pitchfork has pointed to some more videos from the Port-au-Prince performance, including covers of the Rolling Stones' "The Last Time" and Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." You can watch those below. In a bit of bad news, however, Pitchfork reports that the rumours of a DVD release about the Haiti trip are untrue. Bummer, we know.
