Apollo Ghosts/Cool Frontman Adrian Teacher Releases Ambient Solo Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Aug 16, 2014

Since the breakup of Apollo Ghosts last year, Vancouver songwriter Adrian Teacher has gone on to issue a prolific string of releases with his funky new band Cool. Now, the ever-busy frontman has released a solo album under the name Arbutus.

Teacher posted his new album Bedroom Safari on Bandcamp as a pay-what-you-want download. The nine-song, 29-minute collection is a big departure from the upbeat sounds he's known for, since it consists of ambient instrumental sketches with echoing guitar layers and lo-fi drum machines. One of the album's descriptive tags is "improvised," indicating that these were fairly off-the-cuff compositions.

Update: Arbutus has a show on September 6 at Vancouver's Horses Records. Bedroom Safari will be available on cassette through Vague Records.

It's unclear if Teacher has any future plans for his new Arbutus project, or if this is simply a one-off. In the coming months, Cool have a smattering of shows in the coming months, so see the schedule below.
