Apache Indian & The Reggae Revolution

Time for Change Tour

BY Brent HagermanPublished Jul 19, 2007

It’s a good thing Apache Indian knows hot to work a crowd, otherwise the "don Rajah” would be overshadowed by his exceptional backing band on this concert footage from the 2006 Musicport World Music Festival. Together with the seven-piece powerhouse band, Apache weaves together roots, ragga and bhangra, obviously revelling in this cross-cultural fusion of his own creation. Whether it’s giving the audience Punjabi lessons during "Movie Over India,” leading the crowd in the "Om Numah Shivaya” mantra, showing off some authentic Ragamuffin Bhangra in the ridiculously hip "Hey Baba,” letting Indian percussionist Gubzy get absolutely wild on "Gubzy’s Freestyle Dholblast” or trekking down Jamaica way for a fun, if slightly loose, tribute to Desmond Dekker in "Israelites,” Apache Indian’s live show sizzles.
