Antigama Warning

Antigama Warning
Even cretins like me, whose job it is to sit around and dissect obscure overseas grindcore, get confused by this stuff after awhile. But, to the best of my befuddled brain's knowledge, this latest from one of grind's coolest, Poland avant-weirdoes Antigama, is a bit quirkier after the (relative) normalcy of their last, Resonance. Opener "Disconnected" starts things off with some predictably quirky beats and a grind-gone-Voivod sound, with some astounding drumming. "Jealousy" is a highlight, with more strange dissonance colliding with a mixture of technicality and straight-ahead grind. Some tunes, like "City" and "Not True," rage full-speed ahead, fairly simplistic and almost punk in approach, while "Lost Skull" grooves like Blood Duster. These are welcome breaks from the impressive and fun technicality found elsewhere and add up to a great, if somewhat familiar, album. (Relapse)
