Flashing Disco Sounds

BY Sarah FergusonPublished Oct 7, 2008

This record runs on a chilling house soundscape. It reminds me of DJs Jeno and Garth from the San Francisco house music jurisdiction. Perry’s sound builds melody upon enigmatic, crunchy percussion and a funky bass-line. The artist, who is from Dortmund in Germany, made a name for himself over his eight-year career as a DJ, producer and promoter. Flashing Disco Sounds was born from the long-running Dortmund parties of the same name. This album is comprised of two discs, the first one being a DJ mix, the second a bonus disc celebrating the production side of Perry’s work. "Keepin Me” by Stereotyp stands out as a deep vocal track. As the DJ mix continues, it carries some suggestions of melodic trance and some techno flown in from neighbouring Berlin. Flashing Disco Sounds is unmistakably underground. The bonus disc flows less comfortably than the mix but some cool music can be found within it.
