An angsty, animated, teenage version of Nick Cave is headed to the small screen with Before They Were Gods, a new English-language TV show from Swedish writer-director Måns Mårlind that sees 14-year-old Cave befriend and philosophize with Swedish rock legend Thåström.

As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, the series is based in Sweden and came to Mårlind in a dream: "While asleep, I watched two of my musical heroes as young teenagers, drinking cheap beer while discussing love and the meaning of life. I woke up writing and have been trying to catch up with them ever since."

Given the vague description, it's hard to say exactly what the show will look like, though it reportedly follows the two icons as they build a friendship despite clashing personalities — Thåström being the "harsh existentialist" and Cave the "struggling Dionysian agnostic and a romantic dreamer who swims in words."

There's also, per a press release, "the promise of endless love in the form of the mysterious and beautiful Linnea who they have both deeply fallen for."

Cave and Thåström have never actually met in real life, and in a statement about the show, Cave said: "Since I was never in Sweden in 1971 and haven't ever met Thåström, I am obviously intrigued to find out what we never did."

Thåström is the same age as Cave and rose to prominence with the Swedish punks Ebba Grön before going on to lead new wave band Imperiet. "I always wanted to be a cartoon hero," he said of Before They Were Gods.

No word quite yet on when exactly the show will arrive.
