News of the release leaked via an online retailer

It looks as if experimental pop heroes Animal Collective are releasing a new album. Although nothing has been officially announced, some resourceful Reddit users have discovered that a record called Tangerine Reef is set to arrive on August 17 through Domino.

The album popped up as a listing on the French retail site Fnac. When a user messaged the group through Instagram to confirm the listing's legitimacy, the band reportedly wrote back, "Yes… It was supposed to be announced the 16th. Oh well… Two volumes mean double lp btw. If youre wondering."

A product description from Fnac, which is written in French, confirms that this album is part of the same project that the band unveiled last year with the underwater art outfit Coral Morphologic. At the time, band members Avey Tare, Geologist and Deakin performed an hour of environmentally-minded music inspired by the reefs. Panda Bear was not a part of the performance.

It's not clear if this is a brand new studio version, or if it's the live recording of last year's performance. There's also no word as to whether it will be released digitally, or if it will be like Panda Bear's recent EP and be restricted to vinyl-only.

Fan-shot footage from the live performance, which at the time was titled Coral Orgy, is below.
