Published Jan 28, 2016Animal Collective are looking to immerse you in an interactive audio-visual experience surrounding their forthcoming Painting With, having announced the launch of a new, cross-promotional app. Also titled "Painting With," the app lets you create art with other users while listening to Animal Collective.
The app is available now as a free iOS download. It's explained that the app allows for two users to "wirelessly connect and paint together in real-time." Animal Collective are encouraging people to share their work on Instagram and Twitter, using the hashtag #PaintingWith, and the submissions are being displayed in real-time on the Animal Collective website here.
A trailer, which you can see below, demonstrates how "Painting With" works. For instance, if you wanted to create a landscape of paintbrush squiggles with the band's Geologist or rubber stamp a digital canvas with a picture of your dog, you can totally do that now. The app features a variety of brush options, and your sessions can also be exported as videos.
An added incentive for downloading the app right now is that it features a new Animal Collective song called "Lying in the Grass." At the moment, the "Painting With" app is the only way to hear the song, though it goes up as a digital download on Monday (February 1).
As an added bonus, the app also includes a strobe light feature that "animates the zoetropic turntable slipmat," which is included in the deluxe edition of the LP.
As previously reported, Animal Collective's Painting With album arrives February 19 via Domino.
