Amy Correia

Carnival Love

BY Michael EdwardsPublished Dec 1, 2000

Amy Correia's debut, Carnival Love, sounds a little bit different from every other solo female with a guitar. She wrote some of the songs on a mandolin and a ukulele, but it doesn't come off as being quirky for the sake of. There's a little bit of Victoria Williams in her voice and a bit of Lucinda Williams in her songs, and the arrangements inject a lot of variety to the proceedings. The song's narratives tell interesting stories of interesting characters and it's hard to find too much to complain about - there's definitely some real talent on show here.
